Karen Latimer, MD is a Family Physician and mom of five kids, ranging from elementary school to college. She received her medical degree from Stony Brook University School of Medicine and completed her residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in NYC. Her career journey has been a twisty one, due to a few baby bumps and surprises in the road.

During her first hiatus from practice, she co-founded and was the director of Give and Learn, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the education of disadvantaged New York City school children. After her third daughter was born, she tearfully said goodbye to city living, moved to the suburbs, and went back to work in private practice on the upper west side of Manhattan.

In 2009, she was blessed with twin boys and shortly thereafter, started a medical and family blog, YesFive.net. Karen subsequently founded Tips From Town, a local lifestyle website and is the president, a frequent contributor and doer of anything that needs to be done.

She currently practices medicine at BVMI, a much needed, free clinic for the working poor. Inspired by the gift of time she has at BVMI to connect with her patients, she pursued certifications in Health and Life Coaching. As a Wellness Coach, she is most passionate about helping adolescents and parents achieve their personal goals and find their way in our overwhelming culture.

Her dual expertise in medicine and coaching led to the Audible Original, Take Back the House. It will be released soon.

She has appeared on ABC’s Healthy Living, World News Tonight, Good Morning America, the parenting & wellness pages of AOL.com and Verizon.com.  She currently lives in a very full, very noisy, but very happy home in Ridgewood, NJ with her husband and five children.
